Join the team shaping General Convention 2027

The Joint Standing Committee on Planning and Arrangements is seeking volunteers to serve on planning committees for the upcoming 82nd General Convention of The Episcopal Church, to be held in Phoenix, Arizona, from July 3–8, 2027. We encourage any interested AAM members to submit their names for consideration online by Nov. 30.
At its July meeting, the committee approved the formation of several planning committees to implement a new model for General Convention, as recommended by the General Convention Reinvention Steering Committee.
This model establishes a daily rhythm featuring morning worship, small-group work or Bible study, and a program block focused on equipping and connecting participants, followed by afternoon legislative sessions. The program emphasizes intentional community building, formation, and relationship development as integral components of the convention experience.
This new approach responds to persistent concerns about creating an event that enables effective work, deep discernment, and meaningful connection—reflecting the diversity and breadth of The Episcopal Church.
At its November meeting, the committee adopted a draft schedule that the planning committees will further develop and report back. This includes potential pre-convention events, daily wellness activities, affinity and small-group gatherings, and social events.
The following subcommittees will support this work:
Program, Worship & Formation Subcommittee
Pre-Convention Process & Engagement Subcommittee
Technology & Communications Subcommittee
Wellness, Ancillary Events, Exhibitors & Affiliated Gatherings Subcommittee
Finance & Resource Allocation Subcommittee
Membership on these planning committees is open to all interested Episcopalians; volunteers do not need to be bishops or deputies. Much of the work will be conducted remotely in the months leading up to General Convention.
