4/23/26, 4:00 PM
Together with Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, Texas we are pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Palmer as the 2026–2027 AAM Gerre Hancock Intern.
The Gerre Hancock Internship is a ten-month training position designed to form the next generation of church musicians through sustained work in choral leadership, liturgical organ playing, and the daily rhythm of a vibrant parish music program. At Incarnation, the intern, also known as the organ scholar, plays an integral role in supporting the parish’s choral and liturgical life while developing the practical and artistic skills needed for future leadership in sacred music.
Named in honor of the late Gerre Hancock, the distinguished American organist and former Organist and Master of the Choristers at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, the internship reflects his enduring legacy of musical excellence and liturgical integrity. A native of Lubbock, Texas, Hancock’s influence continues to shape generations of church musicians, making this appointment especially meaningful within a Texas parish committed to that same tradition.
Sarah Palmer was selected following a national search and a highly competitive audition process. She brings exceptional musical ability, thoughtful and disciplined musicianship, and a clear sense of vocation for the work of the Church.
“We are delighted to welcome Sarah to Incarnation,” said Christopher Jacobson, Director of Music and Organist. “She is an outstanding musician with a deep sensitivity to the role of music in liturgy, and I look forward to the many ways her gifts will enrich our music office and the wider parish community. This internship is about formation as much as sharpening musical skills, and Sarah has the curiosity, discipline, and musical imagination to make the most of this opportunity.”
Sarah expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity, writing:
“I am deeply grateful to have been awarded the AAM Gerre Hancock Internship at Church of the Incarnation. It will be a great opportunity to hone my skills as a church musician. I look forward to joining the music staff and becoming part of the Incarnation community.”
Sarah will begin her tenure on August 1, 2026.
